8-Week Class Terms & Conditions

By completing your purchase and registering for an 8-week class, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the following Terms & Conditions.

Registration & Payment

Full payment is required to reserve your spot in class. Enrollment is limited, and spaces are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

Due to limited class sizes and the advance planning required for instruction and materials, all class registrations are non-refundable within 30 days of the class start date.

  • Cancellations made more than 30 days before the first class are eligible for a full refund or studio credit at the discretion of management.

  • Cancellations made 14 - 29 days before first day of class are eligible for a 50% refund

  • Cancellations made 7 - 13 days before the first class are eligible for a 25% refund

  • No refunds or credits will be issued for cancellations made within 7 days of the class start date.

  • Missed classes are not eligible for refunds, credits, or make-up sessions unless otherwise approved by the studio.

If the studio must cancel a class session due to low enrollment, instructor illness, or unforeseen circumstances, participants will receive the option of a full refund or studio credit.

Silk CIty Clay reserves the right to reschedule classes due to weather, instructor illness, or unforeseen circumstances. In most cases the cancelled class will be made up by extending the session by one week.

Attendance & Participation

Students are encouraged to attend all scheduled class sessions. Because instruction builds week to week, missed classes may limit a student’s progress.

Open studio access is available only during the active class session dates and students must follow all studio rules and policies.

Studio Conduct

All students are expected to contribute to a respectful, safe, and welcoming studio environment.

The studio reserves the right to refuse service or remove participants whose behavior is disruptive, unsafe, or disrespectful to staff, instructors, students, or the studio space.

Liability Waiver

Participation in classes involves the use of tools, equipment, clay materials, and studio facilities. By registering, participants acknowledge and accept the inherent risks associated with studio activities and agrees to participate at their own risk.

Photo Release

The studio may occasionally photograph classes, events, or finished work for promotional or educational purposes. Please notify staff if you prefer not to be photographed.

Our 8-week classes meet once a week for eight weeks. In addition to the weekly 2½-hour class session, students are encouraged to take advantage of open studio hours to practice, experiment, and develop their skills at their own pace.

Currently enrolled 8 week students receive unlimited access to open studio hours*:
Monday–Saturday: 10:00 AM–8:00 PM
Sunday: 10:00 AM–6:00 PM

*Open studio hours are subject to availability and need to be reserved in advance.

  • In addition to your class, tuition includes access to studio glazes and slips, community tools, firings for class projects, and access to all open studio hours (open studio hours are subject to change). 

    Class tuition includes firing for up to 10 medium-sized pieces (such as cups, bowls, or mugs). To help us manage kiln space and keep turnaround times reasonable for all students, additional pieces and oversized work may require additional firing fees. Extra kiln space can always be purchased if needed.

  • 8 Week Students should bring the following to class:

    • a small bucket (approx. 2 quarts) for water

    • an apron or towel

    • a small towel or microfiber cloth for clean up

    • a beginner tool kit including a small sponge, basic trimming tools, a wood and metal rib, a needle tool, and a wire. Purchase HERE or at a local art supplies store

  • Classes are intentionally kept to 6–10 students per session. This class size allows for plenty of individual instruction and guidance while also creating a fun, supportive, and social studio environment.

  • Clay is available for purchase through the studio and is not included in tuition. We offer a variety of clay bodies to choose from, each suited for different types of projects and firing temperatures. (Don’t worry, we can help you choose the perfect clay during your first class.) Purchasing clay directly from the studio helps ensure that all materials work well with our kilns and firing process. Silk City Clay does not permit the use of clay purchased outside the studio for these reasons.

    Basic community tools are available for student use, though we recommend purchasing a beginner tool kit so you’ll always have the tools you need during class and open studio sessions.

  • We are unable to offer refunds for missed classes. However, if a class is missed students are encouraged to communicate with their instructor about the possibility of shadowing another class when space is available.

    Students are also welcome to use Open Studio hours to continue practicing and stay on track with class projects.

  • Our classes are open to students ages 15+ and welcome to all experience levels, from complete beginners to more experienced ceramic artists looking to continue developing their skills. Whether you’re trying clay for the first time or returning to the studio after years away, our classes are designed to provide a supportive, creative, and encouraging learning environment for everyone.

  • Absolutely! In most cases we are able to make accommodations. However, please contact silkcityclay@gmail.com to discuss all options before signing up.

    Note: There are 3 steps from the parking lot into the Armory building where we are located.

  • Classes are typically paid in full at the time of registration.

    Payment plans with a $100.00 non refundable deposit are an option for those who request it, and require that a card be kept on file to process any remaining balances. Typically, the balance is due paid in full for the term before the first day of class. If other arrangements are made, the card on file will be charged according to the payment arrangement and a receipt will be sent after each payment is processed.
